North Star Strings
A String Group Just For Fun
North Star Strings welcomes adult violinists, violists, cellists and bass players who enjoy playing Broadway show tunes, light classics, pops, Celtic and fiddle music.
Meetings are Saturdays from 10:00 am to noon in Music Room 301 at
the University of Alaska Fairbanks during the school year and elsewhere in the summer.
We are playing at the Ryan Middle School Holiday Bazaar from 10 - noon on Saturday, November 18, 2017. Following this, we will be playing before the Alaska Peace Officers' Association Christmas Dinner, for the Pioneer Home, and before the Antique Auto Club's Christmas Dinner. Afterwards, we will take a break until sometime in late January.
North Star Strings is open to any adult willing to learn the music and rehearse with us. There are no auditions and new players are welcome at any time. The music (middle school to easy high school level) is provided and there is no fee. It's a fun, friendly group that has a good time together.
North Star Strings has played at the Downtown Association's Midnight Sun Festival, the Tanana Valley Fair, the University Women's Association Christmas Bazaar, and at occasional weddings, dinners and social events. The group plays without a conductor, so members are involved in the planning and preparation for performances.
