North Star Strings
Fairbanks Alaska
A String Group Just For Fun
North Star Strings welcomes adult violinists, violists, cellists and bass players who enjoy playing Broadway show tunes, light classics, pops, Celtic and fiddle music.
Meetings are most Saturdays from 10:00 am to noon at 3528 International Street. (Email us to confirm rehearsal day and time.) This is a long, L-shaped building at the corner of Van Horn Road and International Street.
We played at the Fairbanks Downtown Association's Midnight Sun Festival on Saturday, June 22, 6-6:45 pm on the stage at Cushman and 2nd Avenue, performing our favorites-of-the-moment. Everybody in Fairbanks must have been downtown - our audience kept getting larger and larger.
We continue rehearsing the overture to Gilbert and Sullivan's the Pirates of Penzance and lots of other fun pieces which we will perform at the Tanana Valley State Fair on Saturday, July 27 at 1 pm and Sunday, August 4 at 2 pm. Both performances are on the Usibelli Stage.
Rehearsal on Saturday, July 20 is from 4-6 pm because of Golden Days events.
North Star Strings is open to any adult willing to learn the music and rehearse with us. There are no auditions and new players are welcome at any time. The music (middle school to easy high school level) is provided and there is no fee. It's a fun, friendly group that has a good time together.
North Star Strings has played at the Fairbanks Folk Fest, the Downtown Association's Midnight Sun Festival, the Tanana Valley State Fair, the Ryan Christmas Bazaar, and at occasional weddings, dinners and social events. The group plays without a conductor, so members have a say in the planning and preparation for performances.
